JP One – Fire and Brimstone 2
B.A.R Exam (Beatz And Rhymez) Album Review
Lyrically JP One sets the bar for all of the street motivators vying for a solid position in the game. From the beginning of Fire and Brimstone 2 his producer BJ Gates orchestrated the perfect melody to complement the verbal wordplay displayed from JP One in “Encore”. With the tone is already set for the album you would expect a club banger as the next track to come; but you’ll see this isn’t an ordinary artist. The follow up track is a soulful rendition called “Runaway” Feat. 3D on the hook and Flamin’ Lacez on the boards as JP One gives you and insight on his daily journey in this game we call life. The album features some high profile features from his home turf; Detroit, Michigan. Black Milk lends a helping hand for the production end and also spits a hot 16 on a standout the standout track “Rise To Power”. Hood Illustrated being an ambassador of the Midwest Hip Hop scene wondered at what point we’ll hear some impressions of the new sounds that people associate with the 313 such as Big Sean, Vezzo, DBCO, Dej Loaf and others who have had the light shine bright on the D in the last two years. The sound on Fire and Brimstone is unique in its’ own way. To box this project into a space that does not include comparisons to the higher echelon of artist in the Midwest would be a disservice. When you listen to Track #4 “What Will I Do” you’ll know this is 100% Midwest. Produced by BJ Gates; JP One spazzed out on this track taking it to the Hood and showcasing how well he can twist it up and spit like an AK-47.
He’s standing side by side with Elzhi (minus a hook) on the banger “Judas” Produced by Pig Pen as this track highlights some of the strong attributes that serve as proof on why JP One is poised to be one of the next in the Midwest to take strides toward being a problem for these other rappers who try cruising in his lane. As we hit the halfway point on the project JP hasn’t changed up this winning recipe; dope lyrics + dope beats = A very dope track. On “TTYL” Feat. Pierre Anthony and Chel Strong – Produced by BJ Gates; he speaks about the fakes who show face but have no real interest in seeing you grown unless they benefit. Next track is a straight to the point subject “Music”. JP is solo on this track spitting about his passion over a laid back track produced By Big Pen. Overall one of my standout tracks on Fire & Brimstone 2 is #7 “Livin Life”; this is a track that is #CertifiedHood from the beat to the hook and the will keep you rewinding so you don’t out miss a hip hop quotable. You can tell this is the lane in which JP will dominate in the rap game. Just like any album released there are tracks on the project that fade into the shadows of the other songs which happens to be the case for “Nino Brown” Featured Jovie with production from Pig Pen. It’s a raw track with straight to the point lyrics from both parties but lacked the hype from the previous 8 songs. As we hit the final stretch of this 12 track album with Guilty Simpson on “I’m The One” lending his voice to the track produced by Flamin’ Lacez. The way JP rode this beat is bananas; the hook gives you an insight on what Real Rap needs to sound like. If u know anything about Guilty Simpson you can imagine how much heat they are bringing to this track.
Word for Word you can put this Detroit Emcee against the top artist in the game and he will hold his own. I am confident after hearing this Fire and Brimstone 2. Being independent and required to take full control of the project is a lot of pressure for any artist to uphold; but the overall feel of this album is refreshing and is something that is missing right now in the game. The second to last track is “Uninspired” Produced by Pig Pen and JP One takes you on a ride on his side of the tracks. This is that motivation music that fuels every true hustler you is on their grind. The final track on this album is “Hope Dreams” Featuring LaTouya Hart with another standout beat from BJ Gates. This is the perfect way to end the album with an inspirational song that tells his story lyrically. This project is a perfect example of #RealityMusic. In today’s music industry we fall victim to many artist fabricating the truth in order to sell themselves to the world. It is obvious JP One is speaking the life he lives and with the proper connections and the right people get a chance to hear this project it is highly possible he’ll be mentioned on that list of Artist you should look out for.
