Rising artist Money Jezu$ just dropped a hot new video for his hit single "Home". Check it out below and follow him on social media for his latest releases.
Born with a congenital heart defect, doctors said he wouldn't live past 21 unless he had surgery, which he successfully had done at 7 years old. A year later at 8 years old, his father died due to AIDS complications.
“Having your Dad pass away when you are just starting to figure things out as a young kid definitely affects you. It forces you to grow up a little faster and figure things out without the guidance of a man who has done those things already to teach you right from wrong.”
Raised in Tampa, FL, Money is the youngest of 8 on his Dad's side, and youngest of 2 on his mom's side. He dropped out of high school at the age of 17. Much of that extra free time was used cultivating the beginnings of a journey as a self-taught producer. One Christmas, his mother, supportive of his decision to focus on music, bought him a Casio keyboard which Money mentions was a major turning point in the quality of his music when he started out.
“Getting that Casio keyboard was one of the single most important things to happen to me. It gave me confidence in two ways; one, it showed me that my family supported me in pursuing a music career, and two, it gave me something to officially make my beats on. I could create drums with the drum pad and then while I looped the drums, I could play a melody with the keys.”
Tragically, Money lost his mom at the age of 21 to a brain aneurysm. He sat and talked to his mom minutes before it occurred. She passed out 4 minutes after they had breakfast together.
"The night she passed was the most empty I’ve ever felt. Imagine coming home to a house that is missing both your dad AND your mom. I learned that things can be taken away from us in a blink of an eye and that we should always give and show love every chance we get. I took that anger and loneliness I felt and turned it into fuel."
Although Money had been doing music since he was 17, the passing of his mother fueled him to be even greater to make her proud. After a couple stints in Atlanta and Selma, he embarked on a one way trip to LA to try and solidify his career. Since then he has co-produced or collaborated with the likes of 2 Chainz, Jeremih, Chris Brown, and Nick Jonas. In 2018 and 2019, he closed out those years with co-writing and co-production credit for the first single by Atlantic recording artist IV Jay in addition to producing records for Problem, P-Lo, Kiana Lede, and Tedashii. At the start of 2019, he earned himself a “Swedish Grammy” nomination for production on the hit “Kanns Som 05” by artist Cherrie.
Now under the helm of Arketek Management, Money Jezus is saving his best beats for his own album as an artist. You get the impression when you meet him that, one, he’s a man who's done a lot with just a little, and two, he isn’t even close to being done yet.
