Words have the power to shape thought, and thoughts have the power to shape societies.
Thus, it won’t be wrong to say that words have the power to shape our society. Rap musician
Rowe Rowe is a firm believer in this thought. That is why he has set out to redefine the rap
music culture through his words. In this interview, he shares his love for music and his passion
for transforming society into the dream that we all dream about.
When did you start getting interested in music as a career?
I don't remember a time when I did not have music around me. From a very young age, I've
been into music. When I was 12, I was already climbing the ropes of the industry by self-
promoting my music.
What were your motivations?
I am deeply moved by the power of words. My aim was to share my identity with the world
through words. Music was a great medium to do that.
As an artist, what are the problems facing the rap music industry today?
Well, like anything under the Sun, the rap music industry is also subject to all human
imaginations and schemes. One issue that I see is the lack of transparency between record
labels and artists. I wish this would get resolved. I am working with a few associates to address
this problem through technology. The other issue is the lack of refinement in writing styles.
What is the reason behind this?
The reason is the collective perception among the younger audience that rap is all about
looking cool. But there’s more to rap music than just looking cool. The genre is rooted deeply in
progressive ideologies that call one and all to break all limitations that we set for ourselves. The
soul of rap is the rallying call for harmony and sharing responsibilities in society.
How are you planning to address this?
I am working on my music and my writing. I wish to introduce more meaningful lyrics in my
music that would touch and heal society.
Rowe Rowe’s vision of change is not only refreshing but also deeply rooted in the sacred bonds
of mantras and chants. What else is music if not the wand that stirs our soul?
