The first thing that comes to mind when you think of East Coast rap is New York City, you never think there’s any other music scene in the region quite like it. Being the birthplace of Hip Hop the culture had almost diminished its debut presence, trading two turn two tables and a mic for trap music and double cups full of lean, but fear not arises a new generation of emcees. From artist like Fayetteville, North Carolina’s world renowned J.Cole to Compton’s Kendrick Lamar, and also NYC’s Dave East hope for Hip Hop still lingers in the depths of every soul that yearns for its return.

The underground Hip Hop scene is flooded with artists, today’s music climate over-saturation is at an all time high. Even so, that doesn’t stop the self-proclaimed “Underground King” from pushing to make his mark nationwide and beyond. Mayo Giovanni comes from a small town in Connecticut by the name of New Haven, recognized mainly for being the home of Yale University, and the nation’s No.1 pizza restaurant, Frank Pepe’s. You may have even heard of the former light-heavyweight champion Chad Dawson making his come back for a title. Music will probably be the last thought in mind.

In his mid-twenties he still resembles an energetic 18-year old fresh out of high school, he actually exercises this act of “fresh” very well, given his sharp lyricism and witty wordplay this kid while telling his pain and glory stories, his bound to have you on the edge of your seat. After 10 plus years of hard work and dedication Mayo is determined to bring a breath of fresh air back in the realm of Hip Hop. With the first installment, “The Becoming”, of his Divine Rhyme mixtape series and the release of his debut single The City of Gods. In the year of 2016, Mayo plans on showing the Hip Hop universe what he calls “the dawn of a nu day”.
