Afro-Groove Trailblazer ajofé Drops “Town Boy,” Saluting African Legends and Reimagining Afrobeats in the U.S.

Nigerian-American artist ajofé, a global pioneer of bringing Afrobeats to the U.S., releases his latest trending single Town Boy, a tribute to Nelson Mandela, Tom Mboya, Ken Saro-Wiwa, and the brotherhood that shaped his journey.

Nigerian-American artist ajofé, a pioneer of Afro-Groove and one of the premier trending voices responsible for introducing Afrobeats to U.S. audiences, has returned with “Town Boy,” a celebratory and genre-bending new single that honors African icons while spotlighting the power of brotherhood and community.

“Town Boy” pays homage to legendary African changemakers, including Nelson Mandela, Tom Mboya, and Ken Saro-Wiwa, as well as civil rights leaders whose voices helped shape Africa’s fight for justice. At the same time, the song doubles as a heartfelt tribute to the loyal friendships that have sustained ajofé through his journey.

“When I heard the beat for Town Boy, the first verse just came to me,” ajofé explains. “This time I wasn’t venting or telling sad stories. I wanted to shout out my people and give them something that feels good.”

The track marks a refreshing shift for ajofé, who is often celebrated for his introspective storytelling. “Town Boy” brings a lighter, uplifting vibe while staying true to his roots: gritty Afro-Groove production, velvety baritone vocals, and raw street energy. Designed to resonate across settings, from clubs and street parties to workout playlists and alternative Afrobeat rotations, “Town Boy” shows a new side of the artist’s versatility.

Already making waves across Africa and beyond, ajofé’s releases have hit the Top 25 on Apple Music Ghana, reached #1 on Spotify South Africa’s Top 50, and earned him recognition as Boomplay Artist of the Year. With over 3,000 Shazams and trending spots on Audiomack, he continues to prove his ability to connect deeply with audiences across continents.

As one of the earliest pioneers to bring Afrobeats to the U.S., long before the genre’s global explosion through stars like Burna Boy, Twyla, and Tems, ajofé has established himself as a cultural bridge between Africa and the West. “Town Boy” cements his place as both a respected originator and an independent artist, pushing the movement forward with authenticity and vision.

Town Boy is now available on all major streaming platforms.
