Commas & Lambo Give the Low Down on Their Latest Release

Commas & Lambo definitely prove to be one of the most diverse and interesting acts of 2019. With an unstoppable flow, the outfit just released the album "JK-47" via Nashville's own Jeffrey Drag Records. Taking the time to chat with the Hood Illustrated crew, we get to know Commas & Lambo more, as the buzzworthy act is about to take over the world.

This year saw the release of your new record. In your experience, how did you prepare and write the tracks on the recent release?

There wasn't much preparation necessary. When I decided to make a full project, Lambo and I had already been recording single tracks, and one day it just made sense to compile and structure them.

What is the story behind the title JK-47? And what was the inspiration for it?

I really wish I could remember where the title came from, but that is long gone. I'm pretty sure it was Dead Homie and me going back and forth just saying silly shit and twisting words. The inspiration came from that first wild year I spent on 40 block out west. I learned a lot of unexpected lessons and gained a new level of maturity; all of that naturally fell into the music I was making.

When writing the songs for the record, what elements did you want to convey in the tracks? 

I really just wanted to express the fun that comes with the adversity and vice versa brewed in that kind of environment. It's definitely not all sunshine and it's also not all rain clouds.

Who are the key members who helped to make the record and vision happen?

Lambo for sure for producing all of JK-47, Dead Homie, Caustic, Mac Haze, the whole BZRK family. Leah Pommier. And a couple opps I won't name.

When people listen to your music, what is the key message that you want them to walk away with?

Struggle is real but joy is realer.
