Hood Illustrated

A young teen rap artist is breezing through a hip hop mag. He notices each page is posted with artists wearing dark shade glasses and a look like their mad at the world or somebody. The rapper laughs thinking with the money that some of these artists have life can't be that angry. The young independent entertainer is Yung Ro and he is committed to delivering a different perspective on the rap industry. At age 16, Ro left a promising basketball career to pursue a hip hop legacy like artists such as Nelly and TI. After all Ro was exposed to the industry at a early age. His father is a popular tattoo artist at Black Pearl Gallery, a St. Louis tattoo palor where Nelly and other national music artists often got inked up. Yung Ro remembers when he was a young cub taking photos with Nelly. Who would think that one day he would follow his path. Ro explains that he has yet to achieve the success of his childhood idol. Especially in a time that a near recession economy has punched the music industry with a devastating blow.Yung Ro has been told numerous times that if this was years ago he would have been signed. But the labels are screaming '"Come prepared. We don't offer development anymore." Therefore Yung Ro has no choice ,but to put his game face on.  Now 19 year old, he is CEO of his own label Black Pearl Entertaiment/BPENT located in downtown St.Louis, is approaching his career as a business man rather than a street credit dude angry at the world. Even after a near tragic incident were he was struck in the head by a stray bullet. He maintains a positive outlook on the industry.  Ro believes that a entertainer should find every way to benefit financially from his career. Endorsements, movie deals, sponsorships, and community involvement all makes a prosperous career. Will Smith and Ice Cube can surely testify with a Amen. As a independent the young rapper has made quite a name for himself. Charting Billboard HipHop/RnB charts twice, winning a St. Louis record breaking 10 Traffic Music awards, countless editorial reviews, winning the Hottest Male Entertainer at the HotList Showcase, elected the Grand Marshal for the Gateway Martin Luther King March, showcased on BET Rap City at age 16, and the list goes on. If this is his independent achievements then what can the industry expect with a major label fueling Yung Ro's career. Why is he rolling with such momentum?  Maybe because of his marketability, Yung Ro ethnicity of Black, Japanese, and Latino has blessed him with a diverse fan base. Or the fact that he is generation X of a 16 year company which mentored the youngin into a  success hungry business mogul. None the less Yung Ro is clearly directing his career into the clear blue sky rather than the story of a angry mad rapper. www.itsmyurls.com/yungro
