Obnoxious Releases New Video For "Starstruck” Directed By Kali Oso

San Diego's Obnoxious has released his brand new single and music video for "Starstruck" online. The C-Lance (Snow Tha Product, Merkules) and Aaron Hiltz (Madchild) produced track is accompanied by the bittersweet video directed by the recently deceased Kali Oso.
The director and close friend of Obnoxious, Kali Oso tragically passed away in May from a drug overdose. Kali Oso was a key figure and go-to director in San Diego’s hip-hop scene who was best known for his work with Prayers, Lil Grifo, Mitchy Slick, and Kat Von D. Oso’s untimely death was a shock to the hip-hop community. While his friends and family continue to spread his works and legacy they also want his passing to be a lesson for everyone.

“It crazy; we shot this video for Starstruck in the same cemetery that Oso is now buried in. It was hard for me to even come to the place where I decided to put this video out. But after talking to everyone that is close to him I decided to do it. He was my friend and brother. He was very proud of this video and it's part of his legacy," commented Obnoxious. "He would want it out and ultimately I want people to know his story and realize some of this shit on the streets isn’t what you might think it is. Maybe one person steps back from making the wrong decision Oso made and in some weird way he helps save someone from a similar fate. Oso was like that in life and always helped people so maybe even with his tragic death his story helps someone make the correct decision.”

Obnoxious continues, “Oso wasn’t a party dude. He was a worker. It's crazy as he had just finished a video we were working on and decided to go out one night and celebrate his birthday. One bad decision and our brother is now gone forever. This man gave back to everyone around him and helped out everyone in the Dago scene. If a young rapper couldn’t afford the budget Oso was the kinda guy that would just do the video and come out of pocket. He wanted everyone to win and always put others first.”

The tragic and untimely passing of his friend and video collaborator at first made Obnoxious pause on recording and doing videos. But after a short period of reflection, it made him even more dedicated to his craft. Since signing with Suburban Noize Records and rolling out a series of solo joints in the form of 'Killshot', 'Jack Move', 'Superstitious', and 'OB Style', Obnoxious has been finalizing his first studio record that will feature guest spots and production from some of hip-hop's elite.

“When Oso passed it made me take a step back to reflect. I have been steadily building this record for a year. Every time I think I'm done I get another opportunity to work with an incredible producer or emcee and it's gradually taken me to a place of not wanting to rush out my record. I want to build a masterpiece for true hip-hop heads and Oso was always on my side and told me I could help establish Diego as a strong hip-hop city. We have so many great artists here but as people started hearing my stuff and I got connected with folks from the East and West more crazy collabs and opportunities flooded in. I'm not ready to start dropping names on who I have worked with for this record just yet. But I know people will trip and so do I when I think about it. Oso would always say to me, 'All in due time OB. You are creating a masterpiece, don't rush.' Oso always had a perspective on things and when someone like Rakaa from Dilated Peoples decides to bless you with bars you take a step back and evaluate the entire body of work. Rakaa was one of our favorite emcees from the West Coast. The list is long of who I have collaborated with now I decided not to rush it and each time it made me step my game up and realize it's not done until it's done. Oso helped me get in that mind-frame and in life and death he continues to help me and others. RIP Homeboy!!!"
