Why did you choose to shoot the video to your single “Long Paypa” ft Lambo Anloin at a high school? Was it a significant meaning behind the visuals? 

A: Yea personally that High school we shot at is my actual Alma Mater, so as far as the hallways and classrooms that’s where a lot of my early dreams and visions generated at & the things I did and people I met That same four year time period still influences and impacts me till this day. And the field symbolizes the long Haul or understanding the game of inches. You gotta grind for everything you earn and that’s my mentality. I Played football there so I put in work on that same field , some of the people closest to me I shed blood, sweat, and tears with on that field. I was on the 06” PG All County Team with the likes of “Joe Haden” So my Goal/Dream at the time was playing professional sports but as it played out that was actually the last field I ever played on. So to shoot the video there was humbling being back there and reflecting on where I came from .

When I listen to your other content, you have great songs like “Run It Up” off of your EP “89” which has been receiving great reviews. I don’t know if you’ve noticed or not but many of the current upcoming rappers aren’t just “rapping”. They’re exploring other genres of music and incorporating that into their sound. Would you say you are heading down the similar lane? 

A: As of right now I don’t even think I’ve scratched the surface of what I can do musically I have so many different music influences but I am looking forward to seeing how far of a range I could have sonically. But everything I do is a vibe so when I come across that production that I feel those type a vibes on, It’s gone be some dope shit.

Being from the Tri-state area personally I’m not familiar with the music scene in the DMV. How would you as an upcoming hip-hop artist from that area would describe the artistic vibes in that area? Is there unity or is it every man for themselves?

A: I can say the area has grown leaps and bounds as far as unity and not having the crab in the barrel mentality, over the last 5-10 years and with the area getting more major label signed artist it’s also casted a good spotlight over the area and its buzzing more then ever.

What other projects should we be expecting for Joey Swagga for the summer?

A:  Well 89 is actually the 1 Part of a 2 Part EP so after we release some more visuals off of 89 I’ll be releasing its counter part “93” The EP so just stay tuned and locked in to my IG @Joeyswagga301 for all the updates and announcements we got some things in the works.
