Dani Stevenson, a renowned R&B singer from Atlanta, is set to release a new single next week (yay for us!). Stevenson is most known for her feature on Nelly’s “Hot in Herre,” as the responding female voice in the hook. Signed to Universal Records early in her career, she is known for her professional attitude and silky smooth voice.
“Love Me,” despite the title, is far from a love song. Amongst all the “ups and downs” and chances that she has given her partner, Dani comes to a difficult realization that she must leave this relationship. Throughout the song, the devastating lyrics “you don’t know how to love me” are repeated. While the story is sad and frustrating, it is so evident that Dani is far better off without this person. Rather than being upset about it, she is empowered.
Dani’s voice is nostalgic yet timeless, capturing the attention of anyone who hears her. The instrumentation and production of this track are reminiscent of SZA or Kali Uchis, yet Dani’s voice brings a completely new element.
