Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamila Choyce.

A Plus Size Entrepreneur, Jamila Choyce is the owner of Choyce Media Network, LLC.  One of her businesses is Jamila Jay Plus Size Casting. In 2016, the conceptual idea of www.JamilaJayPlusSizeCasting.com website was created to unite plus-size talent with producers, directors, magazine editors, fashion show coordinators, and casting directors with plus size talent. Casting directors can submit their casting needs on the website. Therefore, it is an opportunity for plus-size talent and casting officials who are seeking plus size talent to meet and work together. Talent can register and submit for acting, modeling, dancing, and singing opportunities.

In 2010, after being laid off as an elementary school teacher, she embarked upon the world of acting and eventually plus-size modeling. At a blazing 5’9′, and size 16, she did not fit into Hollywood’s stereotype of beauty. Although she landed a few commercials, court shows, and pilots, her acting head shoots was the key to open the door to her new career.

“During my tenure at my last school, the residential address was a homeless shelter. I saw many students aimlessly come and go without any structure or future. As an entrepreneur, I have the opportunity to assistant homeless children. You do not have to be affluent to help others you only need a heart that cares. The utmost criteria is that you open your heart and do whatever you can. Therefore, I pledge that I will donate 5% of the net profits of each intimate apparel sold from my website will go towards assisting homeless students.”Another business is Jamila Jay Fashions. Courbee Couture Intimate Apparel which consist of handmade bras made to order. The campaign, “Models with a Cause – commits to 100 Bras Sold equals 100 pack backs to homeless students!”

After being signed with three talent agents and driving from Northern California to Southern California, she wanted more! She felt the same frustration and anguish of other plus-size talents. In 2011, the door of plus-size modeling was thrust open when submitted to a talent agency for plus size models. She began writing a column for a plus-size publication and started her own talk show interviewing plus size designers and models. As a plus-size model, she was very active making television and radio appearances as well as producing, styling, and designing for live fashion shows. Most notably, her first national television exposure was on the “Queen Latifah” talk show in New York.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The journey has been tremulously filled with peaks and valleys, and trials and tribulations, but I have to admit I have enjoyed every moment of it.  When you are an entrepreneur, you are constantly giving birth to new concepts, and cutting edge ideas, but you have the courage to implement those ideas.

Initially, as a Plus-Size Talent, the entertainment industry did not take me seriously.  During my first photoshoot, the photographer stated:  Who referred you? What that really meant to say is that “Who told your fat ass that you could be a model?”  Another photographer was pleasantly surprised with my photos. Nevertheless, the fashion industry and Hollywood is changing slowly, but surely.

Plus Size, full figured, voluptuous, curvy, or hour glass women are the norm. It does not matter which adjective is used when descripting women who fall into the size range of 8 to 28 plus, we are the average size (14/16) of women globally. In addition, the size 14/16 is 68% of the women in the United States, and it’s a billion-dollar business. When billions of dollars are involved, the entertainment and fashion industry take notice.

I am excited to be an entrepreneur as well as a Plus-Size talent in this industry, and at this time.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with www.JamilaJayPlusSizeCasting.com – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.

As per mentioned, Choyce Media Network, LLC is a multi-level business model. It consists of Jamila Jay’s Plus Size Revolution Talk Show, JamilaJayPlusSizeCasting.com, CourbeeCouture.com, Jamila Jay’s Fashions, Jamila Jay’s Public Relations Services, Modeling 101 curriculum and training for aspiring models, and Courbee’ Revolucion’ Magazine.

My niche is to showcase Plus Size Talent in every aspect of the fashion, and the entertainment industry. My goal is to provide global and nationwide exposure, and training opportunities for plus-size talent in every aspect of the fashion, and entertainment industry: music videos, movies, catalogs, websites, docu-series, runway, television, commercials, magazine features, editorials, fashion shows producer, pageants, and promoters.

As a Plus-Size Model, it was problematic to secure acting and modeling “gigs.” Prior to JamilaJayPlusSizeCasting.com, there was not a website that was geared toward casting calls for Plus Size Talent.  My business is a “one-stop” casting calls, PR, and Modeling 101 training for  Plus Size Talent.

I enjoy working with aspiring and experienced models. Also, my PR division works with public speakers, life coaches, and published authors. My proudest moments are when my talent is booked for an event, get a commercial or get casted on television, their articles published, or if they are on a cover of a magazine or featured in a magazine.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My future plans are to get my talk show, “Jamila Jay Plus Size Revolution Talk Show,” aired on the OWN. Moreover, I would to take the Plus Size Revolution to local and national television.  Women need to see  other “Real Women” on television, runway, and on the cover of major magazines, not just the fashion industry or Hollywood’s fallacy.  All women should be empowered to embrace they bodies unconditionally and unapologetically.   Ladies you are wonderfully and awesomely made regardless of size, shape, height, age, or ethnicity.  If you ever contemplated a career in modeling or acting, but you thought your body was not “perfect enough.” It is time to change your mindset.  You are in vogue!  It is your time. It is your season!
