HOOD Illustrated Magazine #DownSouthHustlin @ SXSW Day 1

The biggest music festival that attracts tens of thousands of artists and consumers of music made way to Austin, Texas once again for the 2016 South by Southwest (SXSW). This was the first year I was granted media clearance for the music and film festival and made plans to do a quick hit and run on the promo tip. My total time #DownSouthHustlin would be 50 hours once I reached Bergstrom International Airport by way of Flint, Michigan and 40 minute layover in Chicago. I heard many stories about how it’s like at SXSW but in this game you have to always expect the unexpected. The primary purpose of this trip for HOOD Illustrated is to reach as many people as possible in a short period of time. Many people may take it for granted on what it takes to be properly prepared for these events like the A3C, Ohio Hip Hop Awards and SXSW. The number one issue is getting the product down to Texas; so I utilized USPS to ship 400 magazines which were mailed out on Monday to my hotel and was scheduled to arrive on Wed when I touched down…. Praying that that work arrived safely!!!! My hustle game was on point but it was a slight delay when I arrived in Flint; I guess them magazines in the bottom of my duffle bag looked like a brick of that soft white at check point … smh .. At 4:30am …After 30 minutes and a full body search including the crevices around my nuts; I was officially cleared to begin my mission. I packed about 50 magazines in my bag so it was necessary I touch a few people in the airport at standby… got a lot of love in Flint, MI and off I go to Chicago….
First person I see during the layover as I wait for my flight is Cedric the Entertainer... He was with odd squad of people... “4 Asians” riding on one of them Airport carts to his destination… I said whut up CED !!!! He said “Whut up Dawg!!!” and we left at like that... lol
I didn’t have much planned on Wednesday other than getting my Press access and touching 6th street with the magazines. Remember I am down there solo and got all three cameras around my neck while carrying about 30 gift bags in my hand … 50 or so fliers in the back pocket... 100 business cards in the other pocket …. Gum, money, keys and other stuff in the other.
Some of the notable artist I met on my first day were Desiigner … (@LifeOfDesiigner ) at the Revolt Showcase. Nick Grant (Featured in Issue No.10 #TheNextHipHopPhenom) He put on an amazing show ...@NickGrantMusic and also another featured artist in this issue: Starlito @Lito615 . That is a short list some of the highlights of Day 1 #DownSouthHustlin at #SXSW ..
