Exclusive Interview: Mike Enemigo, CEO of The Cell Block

What is your name and what city do you rep?

My name is Mike Enemigo, I represent Sacramento, aka Macramento, the capital city of Killa Cali. I'm the CEO of The Cell Block, one of the hottest urban publishing companies in the game right now.

What is unique about you and your writing?

Everything I publish has been created by a a prisoner, while in a prison cell.

What shaped your writing?

Everything my team and I write comes from authentic street and prison experiences. We're able to produce realistic stories because we draw from authentic experiences.

When did you realize you were going to write professionally?

I realized I was going to write books professionally after I failed in the rap game. I failed in the rap game because I was sentenced to life in prison. I tried to make music from prison, but it wasn't happening for me. [Read the full story on thecellblock.net/mikeenemigo, or in his book Thee Enemy of the State. I transitioned into writing books in 2010 because I saw it as a more realistic situation where I could possibly win.

What type of music do you listen to?

I listen to rap mostly. I'm from Sac, so I fuck with a lot of Mozzy and Lavish D.

Who, to you, is the most undervalued music artist?

There're a lot, but I'ma go with Nipsey Hussle. I fucks with Nip.

What ignites your writing flow?

What ignites my writing is the desire to eat, win, create, and express what I need to express from my prison cell. There's power in writing. With determination and resilience, it's how I've managed to accomplish the things I have from a prison cell.

What do you do when you're not writing (creative or otherwise) and that you are passionate about?

I write every day. For me it determines life or death. I don't do much else but work on something that has to do with moving forward with this.

Success to you is…

Success to me is peace, happiness, no worries. Of course, you gotta have the bag.

What do you wish you were told when you first started writing that you think would help authors starting out?

The 80/20 Principle. Learning it changed my perspective on everything. Read the book by Richard Koch, and The 4 Hour Work Week by Tim Ferris. Best game I ever got. Wish I had it when I started out.

Any upcoming projects?

We just launched our website, thecellblock.net. I'ma do this online "tour" for a minute then we'll be back to publishing more great books. Peep one of the 20+ we got now. You won't be disappointed. You can get .99 cent Ebooks right now on Amazon. Search Mike Enemigo.

Where do we find you books/work?

You can find my books on thecellblock.net. My Facebook is thecellblock.net and thecellblockofficial. My Instagram is mikeenemigo, my wife's is mrsenemigo1.
